SPONSORED ASSET PLANNING TOOL

Problem Overview

There were extensive usability issues in a legacy system designed to assign a value to sponsored assets for this global soft drink company. Each asset needed to be compared with each other using a variety of metrics including q score, Twitter followers, contract length and cost, geolocation factors, and sentiment. For example, a theme park's value to the company would be compared against like entities to ensure equity in formal contracts. Similarly, celebrities would often be compared to their peers in order to value their star power to the brand and set endorsement fees.

The story

Usability Audit

I evaluated their current system using Nielsen usability tools. All issues were catalogued and ticketed into an agile tracking system. Each issue was then categorized as critical/severe, major, minor, or cosmetic and then prioritized. The next steps involved developing solutions to resolve the issues.

Define & Design

Beyond the audit, a reshuffling occurred to reprioritize the workload that the agile teams were assigned. A critical component I introduced involved persona archetyping and narrative journeying. After ensuring the team was aligned on common goals, we began creating these crucial assets. The entire system’s components were then catalogued and modularized to be transformed into user stories.

Storyboarding

Some components required a rapid approach to iteration. Pencil sketches and storyboards were created to reflect the desired experience for particular components that needed to be redesigned.

Prototyping

I led the design team to create wireframes and clickable prototypes for each distinct module. The development team then built each component and re-released the tool.
